Branding

Filmmaking is a collaborative process, bringing together artists from countless backgrounds. From the initial idea, through scripting, concepting, storyboarding, every aspect of production, score, editing VFX, and finishing, a great film is shaped by many hands before it reaches the big screen. When ABC and the Academy came to Roger looking for a new graphic identity for promoting Oscars in 2020, the goal became to highlight this chaotic multifaceted process in a bright visual collage.

Celebrating the Process

The Academy had a desire to create a show package that celebrated the pieces of the process throughout, so we looked to represent the layers of creativity that come together to make an award winning film. We build the statue from musical scores, editing timelines, cut from cloth, and anything we could find to show off the many pieces that come together in filmmaking.

Nominees

Beyond key art and promo packaging, we worked with the Academy for nominee announcements, screenings, and social content. We looked to bring the process into focus, calling out costume designs, script notes, lighting diagrams, and anything else that gets jotted down along the way.
